My Music Biography

1979 Born.

1990 - 2008 - Performing solo and session singer, band lead singer, singer-songwriter.

2009 - Studied improvisation with Atulkumar Upadhye in India, 3 months daily.

2009 - Created a blog about my search for new ways to be a singer

2010 - Studied improvisation with David Eskenazy in France - 1.5 years.

2011 - Studied improvisation with Bobby McFerrin in New York, 1 week.

2011 - Created the London Vocal Improv Collective with Guillermo Rozenthuller.

2012 - Awarded the Katherine McGillivray Get a Life Fund for musicians in transition.

2012 - Studied All The Way In with Rhiannon in the U.S., 1 year.

2012 - Formed The Elements vocal Improv quintet.

2013 - Performed with Rhiannon and David Worm

2013-2018 - Worked as a piano teacher in California, part-time then full-time. Took lessons with Frank Marin and Julie Wolf.

2013 - Began teaching vocal improv in the U.K.

2017 - Released Listen with The Elements - the world’s first entirely improvised five voice album.

2018 - Began teaching Vocal Improv full time, with 18 year-long students.

2019 - Continue to teach Vocal Improv full time, with 45 year-long students.

2020 - Released Sketches - first solo improvised album (with many collaborators)

2021 - Released Remembering, the world’s first entirely improvised 6 voice album

2022 - Launched Vocal Improv App - Your Song

2022 - Released first solo studio album, Crossing The Ocean, to widespread acclaim in The Guardian, Mojo, BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour and BBC Radio 3. Performed a lot in the UK.

2022 - Released Voice Unknown, a collection of (mostly solo) improvisations, on Bandcamp.

2022 - Co-founded the UK Vocal Improvisation Festival

2023 - Had a baby

2023 - Co-founded The Well Global Vocal Improvisation Network
